One of the world’s largest ophthalmology centers has been officially opened in Mumbai, funded by doctors from Lublin. The facility is to bring help to the poor residents of the Indian metropolis, where access to specialized health care is limited. Later this year, the first group of Lublin specialists will travel to India.

Lublin’s ophthalmology clinic is one of the top in the country. In addition to treating common conditions, it also performs innovative and complex surgeries. It was here that for the first time in Poland a cataract patient was implanted with a telescopic lens that acts as a magnifying glass.

Now they will share this experience with doctors in Mumbai. The help of specialists from Lublin will be invaluable, but the clinic’s partners from Italy, Egypt and Ukraine, among others, will also join the cooperation.

The focus will be not only on eye diseases, but also on plastic surgery, especially needed for war victims. Marina Gupanova, who performs such procedures on wounded soldiers and civilians, stresses that this is a real opportunity to share practical knowledge.

Doctors will travel to India in teams of five, and the first training sessions are scheduled for November.
