As the year 2024 comes to a close, Polish football fans can’t help but wonder: will Kamil Grabara finally get the recognition he deserves from the national team’s coach, Jerzy Probierz? With Wojciech Szczęsny’s initial retirement, the battle for the number one spot in the Polish national team was supposed to be intense. However, Szczęsny’s surprise return to football and Probierz’s continuous disregard for Grabara have left many fans puzzled.
Despite being one of the top Polish goalkeepers, Grabara has been consistently overlooked by Probierz, who has instead opted for Łukasz Skorupski, Marcin Bułka, Bartłomiej Drągowski, and Radosław Majecki. Even Polish league goalkeepers like Bartosz Mrozek have been given a chance ahead of Grabara. The latter’s comments in November, where he expressed his frustration at being constantly snubbed, seemed to fall on deaf ears.
However, it’s getting increasingly difficult to ignore Grabara’s impressive form in the Bundesliga. In his first season with Wolfsburg, he has already kept three clean sheets and conceded 25 goals in 14 matches. What’s more, he has been an integral part of the team, even wearing the captain’s armband in one match. His performances have earned him rave reviews, including being selected to the „Kicker” magazine’s team of the week not once, but twice.
In his latest outing against Freiburg, Grabara made several stunning saves, despite Wolfsburg’s 2:3 defeat. His 55 saves this season are the most among all Bundesliga goalkeepers, and he has been selected to the team of the week more times than any other goalkeeper, except for RB Leipzig’s Peter Gulacsi.
As the winter break approaches, Grabara will have another opportunity to shine when Wolfsburg takes on Borussia Dortmund on December 22. With his 26th birthday on January 8, it’s high time he gets the recognition he deserves from the national team coach. Will Probierz finally come to his senses and give Grabara a chance to prove himself on the international stage?
With 55 saves and three clean sheets in just 14 matches, Grabara’s stats speak for themselves. He has two „Kicker” team of the week selections under his belt, and his performances have earned him widespread acclaim. It’s time for Probierz to take notice and give Grabara the chance to prove himself in the Polish national team.
