The fashion trends come and go, but often return and even more than once, as though they were making circles in time. We are somehow well aware of this interesting phenomenon and often decide to keep some of our once favourite clothes, now out of fashion, in the belief that one day they will be trendy again.
My Mum kept some of her dresses from the
1950-ties in the old cardboard suitcase stored in the attic; they could
never be thrown away -
they were all hand-made from not so easily attainable fabrics,
unique, made to measure and own design and most importantly they carried
memories of her youth.
It was fun to rummage through the content of this suitcase
together and listen to Mum’s stories from her student’s years in Warsaw,
more though about her male admirers, dating and successes on the dance
floor, rather than quiet study times in the library
….
Not surprisingly the time has come for
most if these dresses to resurface permanently from the suitcase, get a
second life and impress again, especially that our fashion industry was
limping behind with supplies of what was seen
in the foreign vogue magazines.
Styling:
I share these memories as quite relevant, since this autumn we have
another interesting come back, i.e. the comeback of the roll neck (or
turtle neck) jumpers.
This time, we wear them often underneath dresses, shirts and other tops of any sort.
This combination makes wearing our favourite summer frocks all year round possible.
My suggestion today:
a dress in broad stripes from the summer collection plus a white snug body-hugging turtle neck.
A long leather coat on top, together with a long narrow shawl
with a distinctive brocade thread, more for a decoration rather than
warmth, plus white boots and a handbag in a snake skin pattern.
You will notice that I have combined here several currently
fashionable trends: a maxi length, boots in white, glitter of brocade
for day-time wear, animal prints and the very turtle neck.
More suggestions of its re-invention will follow soon -
watch this space, please.
