For over a decade, Dariusz Mioduski has been at the helm of Legia Warsaw, one of Poland’s most successful football clubs. With six championship titles, four national cups, and participation in European tournaments, including the Champions League, Mioduski’s tenure has been nothing short of remarkable. However, the 60-year-old owner has not been immune to criticism, with some calling for him to sell the club.

In a recent interview with Biznes Klasa, Mioduski shared his journey into football, revealing that his involvement with Legia was not planned. „It was a crazy idea, completely crazy,” he said, recalling how he became acquainted with the club’s previous owners, ITI, including the late Jan Wejchert. „I always believed in Legia’s potential, not just as a football club but as a global sports brand,” he emphasized.

Mioduski also disclosed the staggering amount he has invested in the club, exceeding PLN 100 million. „Just the takeover of ownership cost PLN 50 million,” he added. Despite not always generating profits, the club has seen a significant turnaround in recent years. „Last year, we had a decent profit, mainly due to our transfer activities, European cup performances, and sold-out stadiums,” he revealed.

When asked about potential plans to sell the club, Mioduski was categorical: „No, I’m not interested.” However, he did admit to being open to partnering with a reputable financial partner who shared his long-term vision for the club.

Mioduski additionally shed light on the peculiarities of running a football club, pointing out that it is an emotionally driven business, unlike traditional enterprises. „In football, you’re under constant scrutiny, and most of your 'customers’ think they know better than you,” he said, highlighting the emotional toll of managing a football club.

In a surprisingly candid moment, Mioduski confessed that running a football club is perhaps the most challenging venture he has undertaken, exceeding even his experiences in the mining industry. „It’s not easy, and there’s no room for error,” he admitted.

When asked whether running a mining company in Canada is easier than managing a football club in Warsaw, Mioduski responded unequivocally: „Absolutely.” He explained that in mining, there is a greater degree of control and predictability, whereas in football, success and failure can hinge on seemingly minor factors.

Mioduski’s passion for Legia Warsaw is undeniable, and his commitment to the club is paramount. As he navigates the complex world of football, he remains steadfast in his pursuit of excellence, driven by a desire to leave a lasting legacy in the world of Polish football.

With his unwavering dedication and willingness to invest in the club, Mioduski has earned the respect of fans and football enthusiasts alike. As Legia Warsaw continues to thrive under his leadership, it is clear that the club is in good hands, with a visionary owner who is determined to propel it to even greater heights.
